Datasafe White DVD-R
STeALtH
All of the Test Review disks have now been sent. As I said earlier this is quite an important Test Review as you chaps/chapettes are going to decide if Datasafe are going to launch a new disk in the uk. If your test reviews are favourable then they will.
For the full background to this Test Review have a look at this article.
The kind of information Datasafe want from the Test Review is as follows:
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
2) What software did you use?
3) What did you playback on?
4) What was your impression of the disk?
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?

Got my discs this morning in a double dvd case, no marks or damage on either disc. The disc is white with silver writing and a dark purple burning area, very nice. I am going to burn an image of harry potter and the chamber of secrets. i am using a pioneer 104 with the 1.33 firmware upgrade. i am using ulead dvd workshop to burn the image. the disc is writing at 1x. i will try the disc in a philips 622, a sony ps2 v3, an apex ad-1100wb and a mustek dvd player.
took about 50 mins to burn a 4.1 gig movie and played back perfect on all of the above machines.will try the next disc in my 105 later this week.

Two disks arrived today (Tues 19th) in a double DVD case, both disk are white with a dark purple writing surface and are free from dust and marks.
Set up
WinXP Pro
AMD XP2000
1Gig DDR
A04 1.33fw
Lite-on 16x rom
Prassi Primo DVD
Burnt an ISO of 'The Office' at 1x at just under 1hr. Disk rips fine with smartripper and decrypter, ripping speed reached x12 on lite-on. Disk plays flawlessly on Pioneer DV-717 and MessihaX X-Box running Evolution dashboard and RegionX.
I'm saving the 2nd disk until I can change my 1.33 fw to x2forall.
jamesdc
Got the 2 DVD-R discs this morning, no damage.
Would only write at 1x on my Pioneer DVDR104 with FW 1.32, got to say going by there MRP that is disappointing I currently buy 2x media at 87p a disc and they never fail me wrote around 90 so far.
But I have to repeat myself, I'm sure others will agree that I think this should have been a 2x, I personally would rather write at 2x for an extra few pence a disk.
I probably won't buy any of these, I'll stick to my trust worthy 2x which aren't much more expensive and very reliable at 2x.

Setup
Selfbuilt P4 2.53
2Gb PC2100
2x200Gb ata133 HDU
Pioneer DVR104 FW 1.32
Philips DVD+RW228
Nero 5.5.8.2
Mike.P®
Pioneer 104 using 1.31 2xforall firmware.
Disks arrived this morning thanks. everything has been said about packing etc.
Burned a 4 film cartoon compilation for the kids which was a tad over 4 gig in 27mins 12 secs using the latest Nero which in my eyes means it burned at 2X.
Playback was fine on my Pioneer 444 plus a Wharfdale and Scan machine/s that I have access to.
Cannot really see any difference between this disc and the Datasafe Riteks that I usually use (which are about the best "cheap" disk I have used so far) though apart from the White top.
Second disk burned also at 2x and played fine on PS2.
Would like to say thanks again for the disks...and the free dvd case
playful
My disks arrived this morning in good condition with case.
I seem unable to burn x2 unlike my data-write disks. Burned a copy of the movie “Brotherhood of the wolf” on the two disks. Playback seems fine on my set top DVD player, but I have not watched the entire film.
Would I buy them ………Maybe but would like to see good feedback before I move from my Data-write disks.

Hardware used:
Athlon 1.4Ghz PC with WindowsXP.
Pioneer DVR-104 dvd writer (with 1.31 2x4all firmware)
Pioneer DV-340, Pioneer DV-444, Pioneer DV-350s Standalone DVD players.
Sony Playstation 2
Software used:
Stomp Recordnow MAX 4.10
DVD Decrypter 3.4.1.0
First Impressions:
Got my discs this morning.
I'm happy to say that they arrives damage free, in a double DVD case.
The writing side looks just like that of the 'gen4 2x' Datasafe Riteks. There was some glue blobs on the edges of the discs, where the two sections of plastic are glued together; but nothing significant.
Disc One:
I had previously prepared a title set of 'Evolution', which i burned to this disc at 2x with Stomp Recordnow MAX. The disc took less than thirty minutes to burn.
Playback was tested in my PS2 first. I skipped through all the chapters until i reached the sometimes troublesome, last chapter. I watched this chapter carefully for skipping. I'm happy to report there were no problems.
Flawless playback was also achieved on all my standalone DVD players (see above for models).
Disc Two:
This time I took an image of a ready ripped DVD-R (for speed really) using DVD decrypter in ISO read mode.
I burned this image back to this disc with DVD decrypter, in ISO write mode at 2x speed. Once again, the disc took less than thirty minutes to write, and playback was flawless on all three standalones, and PS2.
Conclusion:
Ritek discs are by far my favourite discs at the moment. Even the original datasafe gold tops (also ritek) work great for me burned at 2x.
This disc goes right up there at the top of my DVD-R compatibility list. Joint first with Traxdata and the gen4 2x datasafe riteks. I do prefer the look of the matt silvertop discs, but it's performance that counts.
Stick with Ritek, Datasafe. You've made the right choice.
peg
My writer is the Pioneer 105
I used Ulead DVD movie factory to burn a home video at 1x speed
I played it back on a Sony DVP NS300 and was pleasantly surprised by the results. This DVD is very fussy about what media it likes but this worked a treat and the quality was excellent.
I was a little bit disapointed that it only burnt at 1x speed but as long as I have got the Sony DVD player I would buy these disks.
I will test the disks on friends DVD players and add to this post.
I have now "Backed up" my copy of The Commitments. I used DVD Decrypter, TMPGenc, Sub rip, DVD Maestro and Nero. Everything worked as it should but again I only had the option of burning at 1x speed. The finished Disk again played perfectly in my Sony DVD player.
Overall I am very satisfied with these disks because of there compatability with my very fussy DVD player. I would probably purchase some of these disks for this reason.
I have now tried them on PS2, Cyberhome 528 and Sony 735. All play perfectly and I rate these disks quite highly.

Now I'm not gonna get excited yet as I've only burned 1 disc but....
Setup
Athlon XP 2100
Win Xp
Pioneer A03
Software - Gear DVD Pro
Reader - Pioneer 105s DVD-Rom
OK, I've had trouble burning at 2x with my A03 using 2x4all, even with Ritek. It seems as though the A04 is better at this kind of stuff. I always had trouble reading the last part of the disc. I've just burned a load of files (a full disc's worth) to one of these puppies at 2xand it's read back to my hard drive in 13 minutes including the files at the end.
Now I'm sure I read somewhere that this is a different type of Ritek dye formulated specially. Well if it is, stick with it!
I've just changed from an Athlon 1.2 to an Athlon XP 2100 - dunno if that wiuld change anything.
I hope I'm not jumping the gun here and I hope I don't have to edit this post too much when I've burned disc 2!
Fingers crossed!
EDIT!!!!!
OK, tried disc 2 - got an error on the lead in. This has happened with many of the non2x discs that I have tried to write at 2x. Oh well, I wish I had ONE MORE DISC!!! Anyone know how to combat the Internal Target Failure etc on the lead in?
TheVaporTrail
Oh yes mine arrived this morning too! I wont bore you with the colour etc as they are the same as everyone else's discs except to say that they arrived intact, in good condition and in a double case
Packard Imedia system
Pentium 4 1.8
Windows Xp
The recorder will be a Matshita Dvd-Ram Lf-D310 at 1x speed
Software will be the latest stable Nero software
I will test playback on:
Pc- Samsung Cdrw-Dvd Sm 3083 using Cyberlink Power Dvd and Windows Media Player.
Sony Playstation 2 and my very fussy Standalone a Sony DVP NS300

The discs arrived this morning in a lovely dual DVD case. Here is my 'review'
Both Discs where burnt on my Pioneer A04 (firmware 1.33 Gradius '2x4all') using Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0.
DVD 1 - XBOX Game (Burnt at 2X Speed)
Burnt the game Outlaw Golf (using the standard x-box file sytem rather than the 128 with 8+3 Bridge Prassi one), the game was only 1.1 gigs but it has serious speed issues when recorded on a DVDR with some other games. So much so that I play the original rather than the copy and it's starting to get a bit mankie. Anyway I digress, burnt it at 2X with a full verify.
Recorded without a glitch in under 8 minutes. Unfortunately the verification failed with an error at sector 513296 (out of 585152) after another 7 minutes. There were no blemishes apparent on the disc surface at all.
Played in my x-box booted several times including resets and ON/OFF cycles (20+) - there were about 4 failed to recognise disc messages. Game loaded fairly fast...getting on par with the original. The only nagging concerns are the data verification failure and the few boot failures, but I guess this was partially my fault for burning it at 2X....but you have to try these things
DVD 2 - DVD Film (Burnt at 1X Speed)
Burnt a film (total capacity 4.17 gig) at 1X with a full verify
Recorded and verified without a glitch. No blemishes apparent on the disc surface at all.
I've fast-forwarded completely through it on my Wharfedale M5, X-Box & fussy SCSI Pioneer 303S. DVD was quickly recognised and played without any glitches - it was perfect!
Overall I like the disc, I was particularly impressed that they came in a dual DVD case (a really nice touch that!) and hence arrived in excellent condition a few specs of dust but that brushed off real easy - but no scratches....yippee! I'm taking the verification failure of the xbox disc and the few boot failures as a 2X writing problem that may be related to the 2x4all firmware I'm using. I would definitely buy these but for 1X media I'm not willing to pay more than about 70p a disc at the moment with all the offers currently around.
Thanks Stealth for letting me test and thanks to Datasafe too for providing the test samples and the lovely bonus dual DVD case.
coppertop
well this is the frist ritek dye disc i have used and so far its the best discs i have used for xboxs
pioneer 104 with 1.33 2xforall fw
prassi primo 2.0
1st disc: xbox game colin mcrae rally 3 done at 1x
boots first time every time the first disc that dose in my xbox. no having to hit reset to get disc to boot like other discs i have used.
"bulkpaq fws white label choice" also loads faster than any disc i have used in my xbox. so a good disc for xbox
pioneer 104 with 1.33 2xforall fw
prassi primo 2.0
2nd disc: dvd video disc shrek done at 1x plays in my xbox ok my ps2 ok and my cyber home dvd palyer ok. no skipping in any of them all load fast as well with this disc. my sam 709 dvd player played the disc for about 5mins then started to skip but that nothing new as it dose it with all dvd r's have put in it so far.
as for 70p to 80p a disc well i think 70p a disk because they are other disk out ther that have ritek dye that are cheeper than this but i would pay that bit more for the datasafe name. as long as datasafe pack the discs right so they don't have any marks on them i will buy them. i will keep a look out for them.

Got my disc's this morning they look like the Datasafe DVD-r's (apart from the white top) which I have been using anyway
my writer is a Pioneer 104 using 1.33 firmware.
I did a backup of GTA4: Vice City for the PS2 Burnt @ X1 Speed and a DVD rip of Ice Age Burnt @ X1 Speed Both disc's were burnt with Nero 5.9.9.17
GTA4 Played perfectly on my V3 PS2 with Messiah chip fitted
The DVD rip play fine on my Sony 325 DVD player and also on my PS2.
So all in all every thing was fine but like I said these looked the same (apart from the white top) as other disc's I have allready been using and earlier posts seem to think they are the same.

Got them this morning and dvd case and deep purple surface bought a tear of joy
If its ok I am going to wait before using these, since I have a A05 due for arrival in the next day or two. That way I get to test if these will burn x2, and on shipped firmware (somin a little different to teh usual posts).
Cheers to MediaForums and Datasafe for the oppurtunity to test these.

Got my disks in this morning like everyone else, thanks.
P3 600

80 gig Maxtor 7200 rpm HDD
Pioneer 104
1.33 firmware
Used first disk to burn a backup of the retail GTA Vice City, burned and verified perfect at 2x, plays fine in my V5 PS2 with no solder mod and swap magic disks. Second was used for a backup movie of American History X, (my own CCE encode) this disk is full to the brim so would give a god indication of the disks quality on the outer edges, burned fine at 1x but gave an error when verifying.
Both disks were burned with Prassi Primo DVD which is the software i always use for everything these days, it treats me well and makes a very compatible DVD. American History X was tried on the PS2, an APEX 1100WB, ALBA 114 and an xbox, played back perfectly on all of them, although maybee worth noting non of my machines are fussy.
Not impressed by the writing error at 1x to be honest, maybee a bad disk as the 2x burned disk worked fine. I would not buy these disks for around 87p as i have had 100% success with the Datasafe Ritek also about 87p, i also prefer the top surface on the Datasafe Ritek, looks more professional and protective than this white top.

1) What Machine did you burn the disk on? Pioneer 104
2) What software did you use? Prassi Primo DVD
3) What did you playback on? Pioneer DV-656a (Stand Alone)
4) What was your impression of the disk? Standard, as good as any other I have tried
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market? No problem with burning on either disk, used it to backup a PS2 game (TimeSplitter2), backed up movie (RatRace).

got my discs today
burnt them both on Matshita Dvd-Ram Lf-D310 at 1x speed on an intel 1.8 computer.
I copied Kingdom Hearts for Ps2 and a Carry on dvd both worked perfectly no problems at all.
These seem as good as the datasafe classics which is one of my favs.
Would definately buy these when they go on sale if the price is right

1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz
512 DDR333 RAM
120Gb Western Digital SE HD

2) What software did you use?
Prassi PrimoDVD @ 1x
3) What did you playback on?
Playstation 2 V4
Pioneer 747A DVD Player
Toshiba 100E
4) What was your impression of the disk?
If the quality of this disc is maintained throughout other batches i'd definitly be getting more of these. I burned 1 PS2 backup and 1 DVD-Video Movie. The discs played flawless.
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
Well i previously tested the Datawrite discs and while i was pleased with them at first, it wasn't until i went and tested PS2 games where i came up with a problem. Okay so the Datawrites were fine with DVD-Video Movies but PS2 games refused to load or constantly crashed. With these however my PS2 backup played perfectly fine. I'm extremly pleased with this disc!

Got the 2 disks today, so got them tested straight away.
Machine:
AMD XP1700+
512 DDR
Win 2000 Pro
Pioneer 104 (firmware 1.33)
LiteOn 16x DVD
Software Used:
Nero Burning 5.5.9.1.7 (latest version)
Tested On:
PS2 - GTA Vice City ** WORKED GREAT **
XBox - Multiple Games Disk ** WORKED GREAT **
Only down side I found to the disks that they did not want to go at 2x using Nero, perhaps I should have tried Prassi (though not struck on it).
The disk was decent enough quality & did exactly what I wanted so am happy, but would go for Datawrite Classic's as first choice (as they do go at 2x with Nero).
All in all, if the price is right I'd try them.
kopyo
Got my discs yesterday morning
a good disc with no problems burning at 2x under nero would only burn at 1x under ulead dvd movie factory. This may be just the fact I haven't patched with the latest dvd burning patch yet.
Playback was smooth on stand-alone player and would therefore consider buying more disks because my player is notoriously incompatible with disks.
chunkmonk2000
My dvd-burner is Pioneer 104 using 1.31 firmware.
Burnt movies to both discs @ 1 x. Both played on my Mustek 720 and my LG 4750. Dont know about the PS2 i will try them later. Seems a quality disc to me.

Recieved my discs today
1. Athlon 1.25ghz
512mb SDRAM
R9700 Pro
IBM 40gb HD
Pioneer 104 with 1.33 hacked f/w
2. I used recordnow Max v4.50. I imaged my movie, Lord of the Rings, to the HD and then burnt at 2x
3. I used a standalone Pioneer DV530 for playback. played back perfectly, no jumping, no freezing or stuttering etc
4. Very impressed with this disc indeed.
5. I think this disc will do well against other so called leading disc ie White Label, which I have nothing but problems with these gen4 discs
So far very impressed with these discs, i'll burn the 2nd disc later tonight and see how that comes out. If these discs make it out to the market and are cheaper or similary priced to the Datawrite discs, then I could be swayed to purchase these new discs instead.
sclen
Both discs arrived today in very good condition
Burnt both discs and results have been very good and comparable with the other Datasafe Classic DVD-R discs
Equipment used are as follows:
Recorder- Pioneer A104
Burned with Prassi Primo at (x1 speed)
Played on Pioneer DV55

so far i've burnt gta vice city, it took just under an hour to burn and plays perfectly.
i'm gonna burn a dvd movie when i get chance and test it on my ps2 plus a couple of m8's dvd players.
i must admit i've lost a lot of faith in datasafe cos they've changed their discs a lot in the past few months, the white topped gen 3's worked great but i've not been able to get any of the classic discs and some of the later batches of the white top gen 3 to work so please don't mess with these discs

first disk burnt at 2x with prassi put scooby doo film on it, burnt without error, no marks or blemishs on disk, played without any problem in naiko dvd player/mustek 300 dvd player/ ps2 / no jumps or skips.
second disk burnt lord of the rings for xbox, again burnt without error, no marks or blemishs on disk, played straight of in xbox with xecuter chip fitted, game intro skipped but it skips on all media ive tried so not sure if its game problem or rip problem
likes.......nice dark purple colour/ nice no fuss white top / good burning results/ good compatability
dilikes.......disks look too similar to cdr blanks would have liked a nice dvd logo
9.5/10 dependant on cost, if they are around the 60-70pence mark i would buy some instead of my favourite white label gen 3 (cost 61p)

Firstly thanks for the disks (and the nice case)…results are posted below:
I must say I am very impressed with these disks. Arrived this morning packaged nicely in a double DVD case in mint condition – absolutely no damage to the disk or the case itself. Looking at the disk, its very similar to the old datasafe gen3 disks but the dye is very consistent on the underside which is strangely reassuring and has a real look of quality about the disk.
I decided with one of the disks to burn an Xbox game and wanted something that would fill the game. I chose to use Shenmue 2 as it is a 4.33GB game that would stretch the capacity of the disk as far as I could.
To burn the game I used Stomp Recordnow max v4.10 which recognised the disk immediately and informed me that it would burn at 2X speed. The game flew through taking just under 28 minutes from start to finish IIRC and Stomp reported no problems. Hardware used was a P4 (running @ 3Ghz) and a Pioneer A04 via WindowsXP pro.
Testing the game in my Xbox yielded equally impressive results. The box, fitted with an eXecuter mod chip recognised the disk first time and booted flawlessly. Load times were consistently fast and playback was smooth and unhindered. Every time I have booted the game since burning it it has worked without a single problems so I really cannot complain about the quality of the disk.
As for the second disk I used it to make a copy of a DVD movie. I decided to back up the 51st state (brilliant film if you haven’t seen it) and again this filled the disk to capacity. Same hardware used to burn the disk and the same results – flawless playback and performance with no skipping or glitches. Worked on my Sony 735 standalone DVD player, my Proline crappy DVD player (this thing has real troubles with a lot of disks!) and also on my Xbox so another big thumbs up from me!
As for value for money, well if the price does turn out to be 70p or around that mark then they will certainly be worth it. I think they would have to be equal or less than the datasafe classic disks as IMO the two disks are on par at the moment but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to switch to this disk on the back of my brief tests, so yes – certainly worth the cash.

Burnt 1 film 4.2gig.
Burnt one PS2 game 3.4gig
All burned on an A04.Firmware = 1.31 RPC1 2x4all (hacked firmware)
Used Record Max Now! to burn with.
On-the-fly copying using a Lite-On 16x dvd-rom.
Played on Acoustic Solution 551 standalone dvd player & PS2.
Burnt both at 2x, no errors & seemed ok.
Standalone player played film fine as did PS2.
PS2 game had a slight hiccup on part of the intro but the rest played fine.
Over all nice looking disk but I have to ask why Datasafe won`t to bring a new dvd-r onto the market when they`ve already got the most perfect disk in the Datasafe/Datawrite Classic 2x. Even if they don`t release a new dvd-r then I hope they don`t piss about with my beloved Datawrite`s.
If the price is lower than the Datawrite 2x then I might consider using them a bit more but they`ll have to be good & very competitively priced to draw me away from my Datawrites`.
TheUltimateTester
The dvd-r's came this morning in a double sided dvd disc case which reassured u of its quality. Discs were in perfect condition. I already had a few things that needed burning so i thought i would push these dvd-r's to the limit. I used Nero to burn them which did indicate that they could burn at 2x but i usually dont take the risk as quality is better at 1X.
I burnt 2 Ps2 backups at 1x with my pioneer 104. They burnt in under 50 mins near full 4.5 gb. the movies usually skip when played on the ps2 but these had no problems. As i have been told they will be up on the market at 70 odd pennies and that i think in comparison with the rest on the market id fairly priced. The quality is up with the best and i will definately buy and compare with the gen3 if released on the market.

Received my discs yesterday. Both in immaculate condition.

Thought id try burning a multi movie DVD-R at Min and Max speed 2 c how the speeds compared
The movie was just over 4.4GB
Burning at min speed took just under 57 mins. Played fine on PC , cyberhome ADL 528 standalone and loaded quickly on the X-Box. Would have tried it on my sons PS2 but he's part x'd it 4 a game cube( no - i cant believe it either!!!)
Tried burning the same movie on max settings (showed 2X)
Started initiallising disc then reported error and aborted(knacked the disc) Was a bit pi**ed off and forgot 2 write the error code down
Quite pleased with the ease that the good burnt disc was recognised in my standalone and X-box. The proof of the pudding for me would be PS2 compatability as this seemed 2 b the weakest link in our (previous)setup.
I'd consider this disc if the price was right but happy with my Datasafe Classics at the mo
Wint
Got to say I agree with the others that the discs came in mint condition, unlike some of the previous test-discs I've tried (not complaining, they were free), and also in a useable case. They look much the same as the Datasafe Gen3 discs which I use alot of and have found to be very compatible with standalones.
Wrote on a Pioneer A04, but only at 1x, I was expecting 2x, but not too much of a problem.
Used Nero 5.5.8.2.
Plays first time on a Sony DAVS800 standalone, have not yet watched the film through fully (Pearl Harbor R2) but initial impression is good.
As I have said I like Datasafe discs and their plain white look, and would probably purchase more at the right price.
Was disappointed that they only wrote at 1x.
Compare favourably with other 1x discs on the market.

Both burn OK nothing to report.
Both disks play fine on my Pioneer 626 and Sony 860 all the way to the end of the disk. I currently mainly use Datasafe disks and these appear upon first test to be as good as any I have tried, so Yes, I would buy these
disks once they become available.

Burnt Scooby Doo, disc was same as before, very good. Tested it on the ps2 and a Sanyo DVD 7201. Both played the movie great, no skipping, top quality.
overall they seem a good disc, compared to others ive had they are great.
Going to grab a few.

Pioneer 104 on firmware 1.31 2x4all with Stomp 4.1
Discs arrived today packaged in a nice dual DVD case no blemishes very little dust. million miles from the state of the yellowtops last month ;op
Burned video on first disc @ 2x to 4.3 gig played back perfectly on Sony 335, Pioneer 454, PS2 and Xbox.
Second disc got PS2 iso treatment, booted up quickly, no skipping or aparent problems (just like all the other Datasafe riteks i have used)
Like the white tops, are they gonna be cheaper we must ask??
Thought this was to be a "new" disk? The writing surface is but.... same old reliable Ritek dye. Another good disc from Datasafe notable for being exactly the same as other datasafe riteks if nothing else.
da_ging
first thing first nicely packaged
have now Burned both disks using a pioneer 104 firmware 1.32 at max allowed 1X speed
Burnt both disks using Nero 5.5.8.3
Disk 1 - Mission impossible 2 4.4GB burned no problems but unable to test in standalone dvd players as i didnt do the get vts but works in both my pioneer 104 writer and 106 reader no problems no skipping or stuttering
Disk 2 - Peter pan 4GB again no problems burning works in both pioneer 104 and 106 pc drives and works in my sony davs300 standalone and the olds pacific standalone quick disk access with chapters and ff no problems to report at all
what do i think of the disk, looks ok writes ok and reads ok but i hate having to wait an hour for a full disk to be written but apart from that it seems a good solid disk but its 1 in an overcrowded market when 2X and now even 4X dvd's are what people

Disks arrived in a nice double dvd box (5 stars for that!!)

evade_uk
Received mine on Wed 20th Nov, in a clear double DVD case. So they arrived in perfect condition.
First impression is because the disk has a very dark dye side surface, that it may lend itself of console use. Much like verbatims and TDK were like in the early years of CDr, and also the very good datatsafe blue dye CDr. But for me the ultimate test is recording films on DVD.
1. Machine:
Athlon 2000xp
256DDR (2700 speed)
80gb 100udma HD
Voodoo 3500
Pioneer DVR-104 (firmware 1.20)
2. Software used:
Disk 1 – Burned Monsters Inc (4500mb) using Nero (version 5.9.9.9). Not sure if this disk is supposed to be capable of 2 speed writing, but with my firmware it only allowed 1x speed writing (big disappointment that). So the disk took just under 1 hour to burn.
Disk 2 – Burned a 007 multi disk (3600mb) using Prassi (last version released). Again I could only write at 1x speed, so the disk took about 45 mins to burn.
3. Playback
Dansai 852
Pioneer DVDr-104
LG 3200
Xbox
Well what can I say!! Bloody marvellous!! On every single machine BOTH dvdr played flawlessly, The chapter pickup is instant and the best I have seen yet. My only down point is the initial seek time when the dvdr is introduced to the machine takes longer than other dvdr.
4. Impression of the disk
Well the most important as far as I'm concerned the dvdr was perfectly flat. I have had a great many disk that were not perfectly flat, which lead to playback problems latter on the disk.
Also, the nice dark dye used means that lower quality lasers (console and bottom end players) can pick up easier than others. The top of the disk is good as it is branded, but not cluttered with markings which is good. Also it makes for a good writing surface too.
5.
Well, this disk does seem to up a step the right direction as far as dye composition, flatness and uncluttered good top surface goes. My only problem is that they would only write at 1x speed. It may well be that I just need to upgrade my firmware (which I'm reluctant to do), or it may be that the disk is only 1x speed. If it's the latter than this is a big, mistake, people want faster burning disks.
It does show an improvement above ALL other disks I have tried, as this is the first disk I have that has worked without any skipping on ALL my players.
In conclusion, the disk seems very good, and if there is a way to get them on to write at 2x speed I'll definitely be buying more.

X2 Discs just arrived
Well presented for trial purposes.. coming in the DVD Case.. (Nice Touch).
1) Sony DRU-500a/Pioneer DVD-Rom 106s/2200+AMD/Windows 2k with SP3.
2) Recordnow software supplied with drive V4.5
3) Played back on X-Box
4) Think this a nice fresh "plain" design... just hope they bring out an inkjet printable one.
5) Very Good !
I have not upgraded the firmware of the drive yet... and will not until its "needed"..
There have been a lot of complaints concerning media and the Sony, regarding compatability...
All i can say that the x2 media discs that i backed up, using the standard method.. played back faultlessly on this media.

Discs arrived yesterday. Wasn't impressed with the packaging as not only had the case opened slightly in transit, but to make matters worse, the bits that were supposed to hold the discs securely had broken. As a result the discs were loose in the case and one had started to come out. Luckily neither disc had any scratches on the writing surface.
Hardware used:
1Ghz Athlon
1Gb SDRAM
Pioneer DVR-104 w/1.32 firmware
Software:
WinXP Pro
Nero 5.5.9.17
Tested on:
Pioneer DVD-103
Pioneer NS-DV55
Disc One:
I was in the middle of trying to backup the Matrix when the discs arrived, so i burnt one of my efforts to the first disc at 1x. The disc played in both in my DV-55 player and DVD-103 drive straight away, but i wasnt able to skip chapters, and the multiangle scenes were feezing. However this is almost definately due to mistakes i made in backing up rather then any problems with the disks.
Disc Two:
For disc 2 i made an ISO backup of 10 Things I Hate About You (single-layer R1 disc), also at 1x. This went off without a hitch. Played perfectly, and i was able to skip chapters. Also, no skipping or artifacting at the end of the film which was good considering i used virtually the whole disc (4.34Gb)
Conclusions:
Overall, i was much happier with these than the Datasafe Classics i tried before (too much artifacting at the end of the movie with those discs). When my current batch of discs run out i will definately consider these if the price is right, although i would want to do some more testing with a batch of 10 before i'd rush out and buy 50 or 100.
pjclark1
got mine this morning, thanks (nice box)
Pioneer dvr 104 fw 2x4all v1.31 Nero v5.5.9.14
Burnt both with 4.2 gig of Divx movies as a data disks at 2x
Burn took 27 mins each(approx) no problems.
tested in
Liteon 163
Liteon (jlms) 165
All files copied back to HD with no errors or slowdowns in reading
Stepping through films is very fast, DVD-r is recognised very fast.
Another really good disk from datasafe, I only seem to be using
Datasafe branded media now. The DVD-RW they make are brilliant and the Silvertop 2x are also very good. If these new disks are cheaper than
the Silvertop I will be using them!
StormUK
Hardware used:
Athlon XP 1900+ PC, 1.5GB Ram and Windows2k.
Pioneer DVR-104 dvd writer (with 1.33 pioneer std firmware)
Smart 2000 Standalone DVD player.
Sony Playstation 2
Software used:
Prassi Primo DVD
First Impressions:
DVD-R`s arrived promply and in perfect condition. Very Impressed
The writing surface of the DVD-R`s were dark purple in colour. Nice, I like the deep purple DVD-R`s as they usually produce the best results in my PS2.
Disc One:
I recorded Only Fools And Horses on to the first disc. Perfectly recorded at 1X and played flawlessly in stand alone player and also PS2. Luuvly Jubbly.
Disc Two:
I backed up GTA 3 for the PS2. Copied perfect at 1X and played superbly in my PS2, no skipping and swift loading.
Conclusion:
A first class looking product, of which I would certainly purchase and use again.
redoxo
For the burning I used pioneer 103.
Software used Nero
Tested on Pioneer 525 multi-region, Pioneer 636 multi-region.
I liked the purple and white colours
very impressed with reproduction
steve_dc
Received 2 discs in perfect condition in dual DVD case.
Ripped, burned and authored Star Wars 2 and Kiss of the Dragon - both at x1.
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
Pioneer A04
2) What software did you use?
SmartRipper, SpruceUp, RecordNow Max
3) What did you playback on?
PS2, Acoustic Solutions 551
4) What was your impression of the disk?
Recording surface looks exactly the same as the Datasafe Ritek discs I am currently using. The dark purple dye looks impressive. I prefer the silver suface of the Datasafe Ritek discs - the plain cream surface looks a bit cheap!
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
I had a lot of compatibility problems with the Datasafe Classic silver top discs and so moved over to the Datasafe Ritek discs. These discs played back flawlessly - the same as the Datasafe Ritek discs. They load up quickly and had no freezing during playback at all. I would purchase these discs, but only at a price below 70p each
Anil00
Got mine this morning, burnt them at 1x on my A03 using RecordNow Max
1st disc burnt was a PS2 backup of Timesplitters 2 PAL, took just over an hour to burn. Worked fune and no skipping in my ps2.
2nd disc burnt was an image of Blackhawk Down, again took just over an hour to burn. Played flawlessly on my ps2.
Overall opinion is that this disc seems very compatible with ps2s. The dye seems to be the Ritek dye.
I will probably consider buying these in the future
taity
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on? athlon 1333 512 meg sd ram running xp and using pioneer a03 firmware 1.9
2) What software did you use? nero
3) What did you playback on? sony dvpq1
4) What was your impression of the disk? ok but only took 50 mins to complete backed up a film i had played fine no freezing or skipping
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market? not to bad but prefer datasafe classic 2x due to the speed and playback
Kameeleon
Two DVD disks arrived Tuesday morning 19th November. Disks well packed and in excellent condition.
Used them both yesterday by burning a copy of Grease and one of Spiderman. No problems with either, although both would only burn at 1 times which was a little disappointing.
Both disks played no problem on my Sanyo DVD 7201 and also on my daughters Cyberhome DH 402.
My system for burning the DVD's was
1 Pentium 4 1.4Ghz
2 Pioneer 104 DVD writer
3 Nero 55914 software.
My overall impression of the disks was that they performed as they should with no problems, although burning at 2 times would have been prefferable.
As with most things I think it will all boil down to the final cost of these disks.
I have been using Bulkpaq gen. 4 at 2 speed and these are an excellent buy at 80p each, so the test DVD's would have to come in quite a bit cheaper before I would switch.

DISC 1
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on? Pioneer 104, Athlon 1800+ cpu, 512 DDR ram
2) What software did you use? NERO @ 1x
3) What did you playback on? Logix 3000, ALBA 109, LECSON 900
4) What was your impression of the disk? Disk looked good. Nice dark dye and solid feel. Put a movie on the disk and it played back flawlessly in all players and chapter skips were like the original.
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
Have tried the second disk @2x using RecordNow software with identical results as above. Except of course that it only took 30 mins to write.
griff
Received the disks on Tuesday; they were in perfect condition because of the rather nice DVD jewel case. These disks seem to have a quality look and feel about them, it may be my imagination but they seem a little heavier than standard budget DVD-R, and the dark purple dye reminds me of the Datasafe Gold.
Disk 1:
Hardware:
Athlon 1.4
1/2 Gig DDR
40Gig HD
Lacie external USB2 DVD-writer (which uses a Pioneer 104 with shipped firmware)
OS:
Windows XP Pro (no service pack)
Software:
Nero 5.5.9.14
I'd just finished transcoding a whole load of Popstars the Rivals dumped onto the HD via a nova-t digi tv card, so I thought I'd use the first disk in a 1x burn one to one with the ePros (which are my absolute favourites for DVD video).
Surprisingly it wasnt as close as I thought. Through my Pioneer 717 the eProse were easily the better giving a more vibrant presentation.
Disk 2:
Hardware:
Dual Athlon MP 2000
1 Gig DDR RAM
2x 120 GB 7200RPM IDE HD + 16GB SCSI wide 7200RPM HD
Pioneer 103, firmware version 1.90
OS:
Windows 2000 (service pack 3)
Software:
Nero 5.5.9.14
Copied a backup of "What's the worst that could happen" which is ~4.3 Gig
at 1x (Nero only returned the 1x option with this hardware/firmware/disk combo). Played back flawlwesly on Pioneer 717- although I didn't watch all the movie - and returned a performance nearer the ePro's; although the ePros seem better with the higher bitrate vids.
I'll try these disks in my playstation 2, and a variety of other players, when I get the time.
Compatibility wise, I'd say these are much the same as the ePro's, but the ePros have the more faithful DVD-video playback, and are only 75p each. I'd have liked to do a 2x burn with them, but I'm not upgrading my 104's firmware, 'till I absolutely have to
tubbylad
discs arrived in double dvd case in perfect condition

compared to 1x discs i use these are top quality and will be buying
Whirly
Got the disks this morning in a double dvd case.
Burnt 1 disk with SVCD on DVD and another with data.
Haven't had time to test the SVCD disk on a standalone yet but I will update my post when I do.
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
Pioneer 104 firmware 1.32
2) What software did you use?
Nero 5.5.9.17
3) What did you playback on?
Data & SVCD - same drive, passed the verify test no problem.
SVCD - I *will* try it on a Bush 2008 when I get time and update the group with the results then.
4) What was your impression of the disk?
Seemed good quality, nice plain white top was good for labelling, writing surface was clean and defect free.
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
Good, but I prefer the datawrite classics that burn at 2x with the 1.32 firmware.
jeaddan
got mine the other day in excellent condition compared to the other types ive received from them, burned on them tonight using my pioneer 103,used prassi software. No probs and played movie back on dansai standalone and ps2 without any glitches. My impression of the disc is good if the price is right i would buy them
sharpy_UK
DVD writer: Pioneer 104 with FW 1.31 2x for all.
DVD players: Daewoo DVG-6000D/Sony V4 PS2 with Neo 4.
Software: Stomp RecordNow Max.
Disk 1.
Wrote a movie i had previously prepared (3.1GB) at 2x with Stomp, it took about 22mins. I watched the whole film from start to finish on the above Daewoo DVD player, it was perfect no problems at all, excellent.
Disk 2.
Wrote a PS2 game global image with Stomp(3.9GB). I cautiously burned this disk at 1x as my PS2 is very fussy, it has only ever worked with Verbatim and FWS Gen 2. The game played perfectly, fmv intro was nice and smooth.
Conclusion.
I am very impressed with these disks, mainly because they work fine in my PS2,which does not like Datawrite 2x. I will certainly buy some of these when they are released. Great disk. 9/10.
henno
Discs received with thanks to all concerned in the distribution process.
Both discs packed in double Dvd case. Both discs were dust and scratch free and in excellent condition with no apparent surface defects.
Writer: Pioneer A104
F/W: 1.32
Software: Prassi Primo DVD, Spruce up
Burned films to both discs at 1x with no errors reported. Both films read very well in my toshiba sd210e standalone, which is fairly fussy and the pioneer drive with no 'speckles' or 're-reading'. My impression is that these are good discs which compare favourably with other discs on the market and I would certainly consider buying them if the price was right
c.grex
Got the discs:
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
Pioneer 104 fw 1.32 4xall both @ 2 speed.
I did two copies of Peter kays pheonix nights
2) What software did you use?
Stomp 4.5
3) What did you playback on?
Dansai 1010 and Xbox
4) What was your impression of the disk?
Looks ok, more intrested in the price being right! played fine in DVD player and xbox, will use them again if the price is right.
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
Seems like this is the best disc I have come across with out spending loads of money. just hope the price is righ
taxan
got the 2 disks this morning burnt 2 films and played in ps2 and mustek 300 dvd player without glitch, ive got a pioneer a 04 disks burnt at 1x using nero 5.9.9.9 nice colour dye and nice no fuss white top, just hope i dont get them mixed up with my cdrs as they look the same, would buy some if less than 60p
Markj
Got mine today, great packaging and disks in mint condition. Used Nero 5.9 to burn Spiderman dvd rip without a problem using Pioneer A03. Played on all my players, Technika 212, Philips DVDR 880 (+RW machine) and pacific 212. If the price is competative I would not hesitate to use them again
q2uantum
Ok here goes... received disks like veryone else said perfect condition!!
Hardware
A03 in a CEL 766 machine..
Software
Windows XP Service Pack 1
Nero 5.5.9.9
Decided to burn a backup copy of SHREK region 2 (PAL) from my HD... disk would only burn at 1x but that doesnt bother me as speed isnt an essence to me...
disk burnt in 57mins so definately only 1x, tried the disk in my Thompson TV/DVD which is very fussy about disks and after a couple of minutes spinning up and down the movie started and played all the way through without jumping or skipping..
I will try the second disk at the we'end as I have work to do and I will post the results back then...
Right 2nd DVD tested using Stuart Little DVDr using the same software and hardware as listed above but also tried in a PS2, I got the same problem of spinning up and down in the thompson TV/DVD (seems to be okay when the disks I use have a very very very dark purple dye) but it played perfectly in the PS2..
I would buy these disks if my normal disks were out of stock..
passion4plex
Both discs arrived in A1 condition, which is a very good start
Disc 1: Did disc to disc copy of E.T. DVD-R using duplicator with Wytron DVD2000 controller. Source and destination drives are Pioneer A04 with official 1.31 firmware. Burned at 2X (took 28 minutes for 4.1GB). Plays back perfectly on Technika (Dansai clone), Panasonic DMRE20, Panasonic DMRHS2, Sony DVPS725D & DVD-ROM drives.
Disc 2: Did a disc to disc copy of PS2 disc 'End Game' using Pioneer DVD-106 DVD-ROM as source and a Sony DRU500A writer (firmware 1.0d) as destination, Using Record Now Max 4.5 software. Unfortunately the Sony would only allow writing these discs at 1X. However the disc loaded reasonably quickly and played faultlessly on my V5 Messiahed PS2.
Conclusion: These discs are comparable to the silver-top Ritek dye Datawrites and the Unbranded Ritek dye white-tops.
It appears that whatever disc you use, if it's Ritek Gen3 dye, it's speaks for itself - excellent
rorrism
Two disks turned up (with 97p owing due to insufficient postage) but were in A1 condition, sending the disks out in DVD cases is a definate bonus.
I burnt a DVD-5 video original that was ~4.0gb and a 4.3gb data DVD.
Being brave (or stupid) I decided that I would burn the first (the video) at 2x, and see how I got on from there. I was surprised when this disk played in everything (apart from my PS2 that I found was broken, no power to the unit) with no glitches at all. I have found that the classics are quite reliable at 2x but I do have some troubles. The data disk showed pretty much the same attributes and the DVDspeed check confirmed this with a straight line when tested on both the A04 and the liteon. For info. the Lite-on is in a firewire external enclosure, don't this will make any difference.
1) What Machine did you burn the disk on?
Pioneer A04 Firmware - 1.31 Gradius 2x4 all
2) What software did you use?
DVD Decrypter, Prassi Primo DVD
3) What did you playback on?
Onkyo DRS-2.0, Sony something or other stand alone and A04 + liteon 12x DVD-ROM with DVD Speed
4) What was your impression of the disk?
Contrary to what most other people seem to be saying I actually like the look of these disks. I am all for a plain top with a bit of branding so you can tell which disk is which.
5) How do you think it compares to other disks on the market?
I can honestly say that it is as good as any other disk that I have used. I have not had a problem with any media (there's a curse!). I would possibly buy these disks if the disks I usually use weren't in stock or these were cheaper.
trevorb
I recieved review discs
1st was used to back up a classic Laurel and Hardy DVD straight copy
and 2nd to backup my MP3 collection.
Both worked well. They were written to on an Imac with pionneer dvd writer and toast writing software and read on a pc with Samsung DVD rom. Both played back on a Pionneer dvd player 454 and dansai 1010.
This was my first real use of the dvd writer which is several months old now I used an unbranded re-writeable several times with no problem.
Very happy with the results!

Nice that the discs came in a DVD case.
Burnt a 2 disk movie on the disks -
First disk on Pioneer A03 (win 2K P3 500) at 1X speed
Second disk on pioneer A04 (win 2k P4 2Gh) at 2X speed - no problems with both disks
Movie played back fine on the following DVD players
Sony DVP700NS
Dansai 952
ALBA DVD 103
IBM THINKPAD A30
COMPAQ ARMADA 110
I would buy some of these disks as they are of a good quality and seem to be compatible with a variety of hardware.

Received by Discs on Monday (sorry for delay)
Top marks datasafe, you packed them properly this time
Set up 1. Cele 1Ghz, 256 Ram, 80 Gb 7200 Hdd, Pioneer DVD-103 1.8 MR
Burned Disc 1 at 1 speed, ISO backup of Goldmember (3.6 Gb).
Burned Disc 2 at 1 speed, 4.28Gb Not Another Teen Movie
To test on Acoustic Sols 521, PS2 v4 (unchipped) and Grundig GDV330
Played with no problems what so ever!
All disks burned using Nero 5.5.9.17
Upside: Good looking disc, compatible with all my players. Fast skips between chapters.
Downside: Only single speed media, Datasafe/Datawrite classic still number one with me, if it had been a 4 speed, well that would have been different.
However, If the price is right, I would certainly consider buying. This disc could do well.
Many thanks to Datasafe and this forum for letting me take part. Keep up the good work.
swinbank
received the discs today well actually had to go to sorting office and pay 97p for them
will post findings on these later today
The discs arrived in excellent condition and was pleased to see that beautiful deep purple dye. We currently use datasafe ritek so hoped these would work equally as well, and they do.
Used pioneer 104 with 1.31 firmware and prassi v2.0.
On the first disc burned a copy of Road Kill movie at 2x speed. It played perfectly on our Alba 113 and Daewoo DVG6000D. Chapters skipped quickly and quietly.
On the second disc burned a copy of Ty the tasmanian tiger at 2x speed also. It plays perfectly on our messiah chipped V5 ps2. Loads quickly and quietly.
Overall a good disc but the same as the ritek disc they currently produce. We like the look of the original riteks top better. Datasafe please do not mess around with the ritek currently on sale. Lets not have another Gen 3/classic changing dye saga. We would put this disc on a level with datasafe ritek but would not swap from using them unless the price was significantly cheaper.

I've got a backup movie waiting to burn onto one of these disks, Spruce up reports 4.21 gig.
I will also do one xbox game, these are both ready and waiting, I will edit this post when they have been burn't
First of all, I liked the colour of the dye, Dark purple.
Disk 1, Burn't the movie with chapters @ 1x, tried it on all the above machines, and worked 100%, I moved to the last chapter and watched the last few seconds and was perfect, even on the xbox.
Disk 2, Tried a rather short Xbox game @ 2x, it booted first time, tried it a further 5-6 times, worked 100%....
I always buy budget media, at the moment I'm using the datasafe yellow I bought for 63p each, and they work great, If these disks are priced near the same as the yellow, then I would buy them.
Fat Man Hackett
I got my discs today (they cost me 97p at the post office, but that's a small price to pay!). I've only burnt one so far, but I'm impressed.
I burnt a DVD movie on a non-FW upgraded Pioneer 104, using the latest release of Nero. It burnt at x1 speed, and took about 54 minutes. I tested the disc on the 104 and it played fine. I then pkayed it on my Wharfedale 750S, and the disc played perfectly! I had problems with discs oand the 750S, but this disc was wicked. No pixellating and no jerkiness!
BuNNi3
discs arrived wed 20th nov. white top purple bottom. burnt 2 movies with them. one @ x1 and 1 @ x2 using a pioneer 104 and nero. both movies burnt with no hitches and played fine in a phillips dvd 723. price is nice for these discs.
andybee98
2 Discs arrived yesterday in a plastic case. DVDs were in good condition, white top, purple bottoms. Burnt one with a movie at 1x using pioneer 104, and played perfectly on sony dvd dvpns305 player, The other disc i burnt normal data to for storage and that reads perfect on pioneer 104.
Thx for letting me participate in this . Added: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 Reviewer: Edhits: 40286
