Caos
Stealth,
couldnt wait for the test review discs to be posted.
Here are my findings.
1. the disks are exactly the same as the original Datasafes we tested in summer.
2. they write at 2x without any downturn in compatibility.
I whole heartedly recommend these discs.

Flash
DATASAFE GEN3 Classic 2x
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 8A 0D 14 .B...@....P.....
88 88 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 .....TDKG02..000

These discs look nice an have a professional appearance,
The top is a matt metallic light gold in colour not unlike the E-Performance disc the logo and writing is a pale gold mirror finish, writing on it with a black felt tip gives a clear print.
The underside a light mauve in colour and the dye is consistent over the whole disc.
The edges are very slightly evenly serrated on the bottom layer and the top layer is slightly smaller than the bottom and its edge is smooth

I have now burnt my first 30 of these without a coaster
Just a one minor hitch one film faltered in the credits and I put that down to a speck of dust on the edge
There seems to be more than one picture of these on the net and the ones I am using have a Silver/Gold/Grey matt finish top similar colour to the E-Performance
I like the appearance but the reflective surface made photocopying it difficult
These are the ones I am using . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In conclusion after 30 burns these are the second most compatible 2x discs I have used being beaten at the post only by Traxdata with the 1.31 firmware on my A04.
For the price they have yet to be beaten
I only have facilities for testing the discs on DVD players for movie playback but the playback is faultless on all my players
I will be definitely be buying some more when my samples run out.

speedburner
Great i will be testing these discs , ive already got about 5 - 6 movies on these, they play great all the way through. Seems like we get the realiability on a 1x classic put into a 2 speed without any downturn in quality.
Cant wait to test

ted
got some of these on friday and they r the silver topped 2x
copied both movie and xbox at 2x on the fly and both worked
(u have turn off the test reading speed before copying directly from disc or stomp wont do it )
pioneer 117 dvd-rom to 104
hope these r wot they first seem folks!!

Received my test disc this morning and burnt a 4.36gig movie at 2x with RecordMax.on my A04 firmware 1.20 region free.
Thedisk burnt without problem at 2x and when played in my Logix 3000, Started up fast and looked very promising. However, the film started to freeze badly at 1 hour 5 mins into the film and by 1 hour 12 mins had frozen completely.
I shall try it in several more players today and post my findings.

MW.
Received test disc today.
Disc is silver top, and the dye is a lighter shade of purple than the white datasafe classic discs i already have.
With Pioneer 104 firmware 1.32, burnt a ps2 game (medal of honor 3.8gig) with nero 5.5.9.14 took 25mins to burn at 2x. Playback on a v3 ps2 was just as good as the 1x datasafe classic i have, some stuttering in the playback but i think this may be due to scratches that were already on the disc prior to burning.
thanks for the test disc

pjclark1
Got my datasafe classic this morning thankyou stealth
(advdinfo reports as TDKG02)
using pioneer dvr104 f/w 1.20 and nero 5.9.9.0
Burnt a data dvd with 10 buffy episodes DiVXed on it
completely filled the dvd-r.
recorded 4.37gig at 2x in 29 mins
recognised and read in my liteon 165 dvd rom instantly
played episodes at random, stepped thru episodes.
no problems of any kind.
liteon 163 dvd rom took about 5 secs to recognise (a bit longer)
but also played perfectly with no problems of any kind.
definately a good disk.................

windle
Just tried the movie in my friends LECSON 900 and it played flawlessly. This is the first time I have had a 2x disc work properly in any of my friends players so this bodes well. I'll just have to get a neww player to replace my year old Logix 3000 so that I can use them. Acoustic Soloutions 451 should do me fine.

Received the disk this morning. Some slight scratches but nothing major.
Burned 4.1Gb of SVCD using Nero 5.5.9.0 on a pioneer 104 firmware 1.32.
Recognised as 2x and burned at 2x. Verified with no errors.
Quick test on a Bush2008 stanadlone. Played the start of 5 SVCD clips and checked fast search.
Recognised quickly. No skipping seen so far. I'll update this review when I manage to get time to watch the whole thing through.
So far, a good quality disk.
Does exactly what it doesn't say on the tin, records at 2x
I'm tempted to make these my next order.

Gazanimal
Hmmmm....did I recieve a different disc to everybody else as mine was obviously a Datasafe Classic but it had a white label & not a silver matt finish to it.
Anyway I burned a Disney movie onto the disc using Stomp & selected 2x writing speed.Initially the disc initialized the disc at 2x & told me it would take 28mins to burn but......
It burned at 1x & took 56mins to burn.
I don`t know wether this had anything to do with me getting a `white` disc as opposed to a `silver` one,but either way the disc only burned at 1x.
Compatibility wise it was great & played fine in all my players & would be my 2nd choice dvd-r behind White Label Media 1x.If it worked at 2x for the price it`s advertised then It`d become 1st choice but seen as it didn`t I`ll stick to White Label for now.
10/10 for the disc though
Thanks again Stealth.

lesley
received my disc this morning. mine too was a Datasafe Classic White top not silver. looks like they sent a mixture out !!
burned a movie 3.9g. would only burn at 1x though. played back perfect on everything I tested it on. Skipped through chapters easily, no stutters.
thanks for letting me test.

riptoff
received silver top this morning-burnt a 4.37 gig movie using a pioneer a03 1.68-burnt at 2 speed in exactly 29 minutes
i still have my old 'smart' dvd player fussy as owt
so far will only play fws and eproformance so wasn't expecting much
but wot a surprise !!!! recognised disc a little slower than normal but apart from that perfect-chapter skip perfect, fast forward pickup perfect, movie playback perfect
this disc is fantastic gonna go order some from svp

jokerz
Got my datasafe classic (silvertop) this morning cheers stealth
popped in disk and advdinfo reports as TDKG02
burnt 4.3 gb using pioneer dvr104 f/w 1.20
Picked up disk very fast in my player and didnt skip once
TOP DISK !!!
Will be buying these if price is right

sigsphotos
My disk was delivered yesterday and I used Nero to back up a 4GB movie on my Panasonic LF-D311 1x burner.
Movie plays on all my DVD-ROMs and also on my Sony DAV-S300 stand-alone player.
Didn't have time last night to watch the whole movie, so I skipped through the chapters to the last one and played that one through to the end. No problems at all.
Nice disk, and at less than a squid each, I'll be getting some.
Thanks for letting me test it.

pablopicasso
Got the datasafe dvdr today and thought i'd put TOCA race dricer on it, mainly 'cos it's the game i've had most problems with (coaster central).
Using prassidvd 2.0.767 and a pioneer a/1 04 with a samsung reader and copy "on the fly"...
Said it would write 2x in 24m 15s but actually took 24m 25s
Game is about 3.7 Gig
Put it in a v5 messiah'd ps2 and it took 30 seconds to load the first screen another 30 for the second, then played the first 2 bits of animation then locked..........tried again.....same
I usually use whitelabel gen 4 2x and write at one speed for best results. I ordered some more datasafe monday so will try again at 1x and for films.

Riff
Got mine this morning - in perfect condition Haven't got any transcoded digi tv vids anywhere near ready so will do a backup of Monsters Inc at 2X.

Chunkmonk2000
Received my disc this morning. Thanks guys.
Burnt a movie on my Pioneer A04, The Grinch. Everything went with no hitches at all.
Burnt @ 2x No probs.

Tezzi
Recieved mine at 4am this morning (Glad i work in the post office), couldn't wait to get home and try it (finished my round at 9.30 and sneaked home before going back to work)..
Using Prassi primo, and my pioneer A04, i burnt a copy of the spiderman
movie i've got as an image file, Wrote it at 2X and it took under half an hour (didn't look exactly to see the time).. Put it in my DVD player, and it played flawlessly.. Then put it in my PS2 (messiah'd) and it played ok there aswell... tried in PC's Lite-on DVD-rom, and it worked ok in there aswell.
Looks like i'll be buying some of these very soon!!!

Zodiac
Burnt in pioneer 103 fw 1.68
3,142mb in 20 mins at 2x using Nero 5.5.9.9
Tested in Mustek-V520 picked it up very quickly. Played perfectly, didn't skip and fast-forward excellent too.
Toshiba SD-M1502 DVD-rom ... Playback as above
Nice disk

Anil00
Received my test disc this morning and burnt a 4.3gig movie at 2x with RecordNow Max on my A03.
Burnt without a problem at 2x and played the movie on my PS2 no problems. Will test it on other dvd players soon.
Promising disk tho

WHAT HAVE DATASAFE / DATAWRITE DONE????!!!!!!
This was the same as the Choice 2X disc I tested, It doesn't work, Laser Calibration failed. This is clearly a totally different disc, with a different dye and everything. Seems to have no relation to the classic whatsoever.
So now what??? They have messed with the "Classic" after everything that went on. Maybe they should call it "just another random disc".
I can't even get the white top ones anymore, it seems they have totally switched to these pieces of crap.
Why couldn't these have been given a different name and LEAVE THE CLASSIC ALONE??? Wasn't that the whole point of bringing out the classic in the first place?
Oh well, looks like it's over to the traxdata from now on. I was using these for PS2 as they have a 4X shorter loading time than the Datasafe / Datawrite and I was using the Datasafe / Datawrite for movies as they seemed to have marginally the best compatability among standalones. Now Datasafe / Datawrite have forced my hand so they lose my business. Thankfully the Traxdata seem just about as good as the Datasafe / Datawrite for movies...

First off i didn't bother asking for the freebies, i bought 30 of these 2x classics
Here is my testing rig.
Pioneer 104
Stomp recordnow max
Pal v3 ps2 fitted with neo4
U.S xbox fitted the x-ecuter
cyberhome 528 dvd player
Burnt domestic disturbance from an image i had on hd, disc burnt a 2x as expected.
Dropped it into the dvd player and it wouldn't load up, just kept spinning up.
on the 4th!! try it picked up, the movie played for under a minute then just locked up.
The movie wouldn't boot up on ps2 either.
Next made a 1:1 copy of fox too hot for tv, same as above! no joy on cyberhome or ps2.
Now the good news!!!!
Burnt need for speed: hot pursuit 2 and burnout 2: point of impact for ps2.
Both picked up first time and loaded fast and smooth, the intros didn't lag either.
Finally! burnt burnout #1 for xbox, picked up straight away also and loaded without trouble.
So overall for me anyway....they seem to be good for xbox and ps2, but are no good for movies. which was the thing that i most wanted these discs for.
The Datasafe / Datawrite white topped classics, worked 100% on my xbox/ps2 and cyberhome player.
So thanks mr Datasafe / Datawrite! in the process of making these unoffical 2x classics.
You have totally messed up my dvd movie playback, cheers.
I hope you start selling the white topped classics again????????????

SKA
hi,
got the Datasafe / Datawrite classic this morning ... (wed 9 sep)
burned a movie to it - no bother at all at 2x on my nasty old supadrive (thankfully running on a pc not a mac) since i did the panasonic update. The movie ran no bother at all on my pioneer dv-444 but, glitched and came to a full stop on my xbox running evox and dvd region x the first time i tried it out, subsequent attempts however were successful, so it might have been a one-off. Physically the disc looks very nice and is very like the e-performance dvd-r.
If the price is right I would definately buy these disks .....
p.s. sorry about not posting a review of the last dvd that i think you sent to me .... the reason believe it or not was that our postman got arrested for stealing the mail from everyone on his route. The clever bastard thought he wouldnt get caught if he took ALL the mail for 4 days running, and during that time i think u might well of sent the last one out.

Disc arrived this morning jewel cased(just as well though the postie had thrown it in).I am away to test now on a iso on my HD hopefully will have review in around 30 mins.
Burning a iso with stomp rec now it burned a 4.5 gig iso in 28 mins 45 secs.
I have FF to the last 10 mins not a flaw in sight and have FF through out no probs.
DATASAFE / DATAWRITE DO NOT CHANGE THIS DISC.
I am delighted with these (and thanks for op to test) I said the same thing with the 1x original datasafe gen 3's til they got changed.Lets hope this 2x is not a ploy to get everyone they lost the last time back then pull another stunt.
Nice looks,2x burning(at last it SEEMS a compatible 2x is here) loaded quickly in my philips 623.
this was burnt using the pioneer AO4 I have a 104 and will see if they do the same in that.
for me they rate 11\10 purely due to 2x reliablility no 2x has played well near the end of a disc (in my player)which is why i choose a large file size.lets all hope
things go forward now...top class disc.

OK, my Datasafe / Datawrite disk arrived this morning. I tested it by writing a DVD image file to my Pioneer DVR-A03 drive firmware 1.90 using VOB InstantDisc 6.5.2.76. at 2x speed. It took just under 32 minutes to write out the disk.
The image had been created using Spruce Virtuoso authoring software with 14 menus and 56 chapter points.
Playback on my Panasonic DVD-P10MU portable was excellent up until the last 6-7 chapters on the disk where it glitched and then locked up on playback though I was able to get back to the chapter menu. However, this was a much better performance than I had ever been able to achieve with earlier Datasafe / Datawrite Media recorded at 1x on this player. So I'm pretty happy.

Dexicrom
Got my disc today. Burnt an image of Pearl Harbor Dir Cut at x2. Plays ok except for the last couple of chapters were it locks up.
Tested in Pioneer 104, Pioneer 626D, PS2
Had some on the way from a supplier which also arrived today, burnt Harbor again at x1 and it played fine on all 3
Will try x2 burning again incase it was an iffy disc.

speedburner
Well my test disc came this morning ta stealth, although i have to say i had already taken delivery of a batch of these from a supllier. At first glance i could see the dye is a lighter colour on these, from the original classics (tut tut Datasafe / Datawrite have you changed the dye formula again and not told us?) anyways i proceeded to burn a copy of Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones.
Disc was accepted as 2x by record now max and burned in just under 32mins. From the bottom of the disc the burn looked fine, no obvious burn errors, but the dye didnt look as smooth as the original classics.
I tested the disc on my sony dv900 dvd player, which isnt really a good test machine as it plays any media that you put in it, disc was picked up very quick and played instantly, fast forwarding and scene jumping wasnt a problem and no skipping accured.
Tried the disc on my ps2 v5 console and once again it played fine. Same goes for my pc and my xbox console.
Well all seems to be well, but i have spoken to a few friends of mine that have had problems with these new classics, with console games (ps2 and xbox, games dont load or skip alot after loading. This is discs burnt at 1x aswell.
Although i have not encountered a problem with this media yet, so far has been flawless. I suspect that Datasafe / Datawrite may have changed there dye formula and not told us again, as there is a definate change in the colour from a dark purple to a lighter purple, and the dye isnt as smooth looking as the originals classics.
Anyways theres my 2 cents worth. I look forward to testing some more media in the future, thanks

BillnotBen
Took delivery of my silver topped Datasafe / Datawrite today, disc required cleaning and has a few marks on it.
Created an ISO of the Jeeper Creepers extras side of the disk using DVDDecrypter (4Gig) and burnt using PrimoDVD. Took just under 30min and verified OK.
Disk has a number of burn shadows caused by the marks.
Plays flawlessly on my PCs Pioneer DV-113 using PowerDVD.
X-Box installed with Messiha-X, EvoultionX dashboard and DVD Region X did not like it at all. Menu loads OK but would only play 10 seconds of each feature before retuning to menu.
Pioneer DV-717 standalone boots up as if it was the original. Disk plays OK until the last 20 mins of del scences then goes blocky and bombs out. Caused by the shadows?
Would I buy these? Depends on price and wether or not I'll have to clean every disk.
Has anyone tested an X-BOX title?

sidneysides
Here's my 2p worth:
Test Rig
Pioneer A03
Win Xp
Instant DVD
Burned a reauthored version of Grease which took up the full disc.
Results - played fine in my A03 but my Samsung would not pick it up at all. Oh shite i thought, I've just order 10 of these from SVP!
BUT I tried one from my pack of 10 and used Prassi to write and it plays perfectly.
I have also tried to write at 2x to the OLD WHITE TOP classics using the hacked firmware and had hit and miss results really. Acouple worked to the end, a couple didn't, although I have had NO SUCCESS AT 2X with Instant DVD. I always use this program, but since these 2x discs came out it has produced poor results for me. I am wondering if there is a compatability issue betweeen the 2?
Anyway , my verdict is GREAT DISC if burned with Prassi.

scottish nutter
used my disc to copy a 4.3g movie in my vivastar dvdr, the film had a few skips in the middle when played on my jvc dvd player,
i dont think these discs are as good as the white label

nickscott
Disk arrived yesterday. It had blemishes over much of the surface. I burned a 3.8Gig ISO with DVD Dycrypter set to 2x and it took 39mins with a Pioneer 104. The disc played perfectly on my Pioneer DV-454 and loaded quickly as well. I'm still concerned about the blemishes, though.

silverbullet
Rec'd my test disc yest morn, thank u
After testing the initial Datasafe / Datawrite Classics I had high hopes for this disc with every possible body part crossed
Put disc into my A03 (fw1.90), decided to burn Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on ps2 (2.90 GB) This was from a .iso so I wasnt able to get an estimated time on burning at max speed using Prassi, started the burn process at 12.19 was kinda estimating on a game that size burn time would be approx 20 mins at x2, writer finally decided to stop writing at just gone 1pm.
This disc failed to write at x2 on my writer, am going to downgrade the firmware this weekend & will order some to test again, as playback on v3 & v5 ps2 was faultless.
Overall, loved the matt silver finish (hmm wonder why) would have loved the appearance even more if the Silver writing was black
A nice disc, on par with the original I tested however need to burn a few dvds on the ones im ordering to c if my player can play it with no skipping/pausing.

DaveP
My silver disk arrived this morning. Thanks very much for that! The case got damaged in the post but the disk itself seems OK.
I've only got the Panasonic DMR20e so I transferred a film, Dont Look Now, to it. The disk was recognised by the recorder which is a good start!. Left it recording while I went to work. Got home at lunchtime and it had finished recording ok. Checked playback by skipping 10 minute chunks and it seems fine. Finalised the disk and it still plays fine. I shall try it in my DVD players tonight (Pioneer 505 and Sony NS700). Not sure when I'll have time to watch the movie tho', the missus wont watch it again. Gave her nightmares the first time round!
Where's the cheapest supplier please?
Thanks
Dave

Hey Guys,
Received my disk yesterday, but only have had a chance to try it out today, so here is my short but sweet review
Backed up Steven Segal's "Out for Justice", which weighs in at 4.15gb.
My test setup:
- P3-550 not overclocked
- Windows 2000 SP3
- Writer: Pioneer A04 dma enabled
- Reader 1: Liteon 16x IDE
- Reader 2: Creative Labs PC-DVD 6x
- Player: Pioneer DV-530
Estimated time to burn was 30mins at 2x with Stomp RecordNow Max - successfully completed in 30mins as well. Stomp verified the image as being ok.
Plays nice and smooth in the pioneer drive for the full length of the movie. Recognised perfectly in the liteon drive, as well at the creative drive.
Overall, a perfect disk from what I can see! Already ordered some
Thanks for the test disk - hopefully I can test more disks in the future

q2uantum
Received my disk yesterday, and all I can say is that it is wicked!!..
Tested with A03 burning the DVDr Bonus Disk of Spiderman,
Tested on a PS2 and A Thomson TV/DVD (which doesnt like most media) and it worked with no problems at all..
I will definately purchase these next time

swinbank
thanx for the opportunity to test this disc. I used to use Datasafe / Datawrite gen 3 before they started messing with the dye but having returned 2 batches i gave up on them.
I was looking forward to trying these and hoping they would be as compatible as the original gen 3 that we all knew, loved and trusted..lol
i burnt dvd movie snow dogs 3.4gb at 2x speed on my 104 using prassi
movie stuttered and then froze on one of my dvd players (alba) hence i shall be sticking to traxdata as ive had 100% success with films and games at 2x speed.
have now also tested this disc on v5ps2 with messiah and daewoo dvd player disc played fine on daewoo but was a little on the slow side on the ps2 when skipping chapters

Mike.p(r)
Pioneer 104 with firmware 1.32
Ripped Sum of all fears & windtalkers and burned to the disc with menu and chapters..approx 4.19 gig.
Burned no problem at 2x and it played all the way through without a stutter ( which is a first for me with any 2x burned media..even on my Pioneer 444 )...the disk went off today to be tested on a VERY picky Panasonic player..so we shall see.

sharpy

Received my disk yesterday, thanks Stealth.
Used Pioneer 104 firmware 1.20 and Stomp RecordNow Max to backup a film, which recorded at 2x in 30 minutes. The disk tested out ok in a Mustek V300 and a Pioneer 454.
Conclusion: Definately worth a look at around 90p each.

backupkings99
Burnt Mr Deeds (Retail dvd)took less than 30 minutes.Tried it on xwave & mustek500 dvd players no problems at all no skipping or anything.Tried it on messiah modded ps2 same results, seems like a good disc but time will tell

bsg
Got my disc about 2 days ago but only just had a chance to test it (damn reinstalls suck!) Test rig. Athlon 2200XP, 512 DDR pc333, Pioneer A03 (firmware revision 1.90).
Made a global image of a multi movie DVD I have and burnt it back using PrimoDVD with the latest PXengine update. Disc was recognised as x2 straight away and a 4.23gb was written in roughly 25 minutes. Playback was flawless in everything I tried it on....
Conclusion? if these discs are going to be sold for 90p i'll get a few to try before commiting to a big order but I was very pleased with my sample....
Thanks again

Garethh

I'd just like to add i've had two friend burn on these discs using other firmware's and the disc refused to play on my Toshiba 100E without jumping and skipping. Tip: Update your firmwares.

CHRIS
Recieved disk yesterday thanks very much Stealth

Hi,
Pioneer A03
Prassi v2
WinXP
Tested by burning a movie at 2x. I deliberately chose a vcd transfer rather than a 1:1 as I think the transfers don't play as easily... Tested in my son's PS2, worked fine, loaded fast and didn't skip. His PS2 can be fussy at times as well.... As always My Yello played this disc fine as well. Ok, onto my fusy PC DVD drive (Samsung SD608) and this also played it fine.
i'm quite pleased with this disc... would I buy, yes, in small batches in case they decide to change the dye again.... once bitten and all that....
Thanks Stealth and Datasafe / Datawrite for letting me take part in this test.

Maximus

I`ve burned 3 films and a few ps2 and x-box games at 2x with no problems whatsoever..(and yes there is such a word)..nice one Datasafe / Datawrite keep em coming...at last the media is becoming more reliable!!
Cheers guys

Got this disc yesterday, cheers Stealth.
Burned with the following configuration:
WindowsXP
A104 (1.32 firmware)
Stomp RecordMaxNow
I burned a copy of 40 days and 40 nights (3.64GB) onto it at 2x, first ripping the disc in with DVDdecrypter, adding a AUDIO_TS dir in with the ripped VIDEO_TS dir and burning with Stomp.
Took about 25 mins (roughly) Very nice to be able to burn a disc in 30mins or less!!!
I then watched the disc all the way through on my Pioneer DV-350, and it played perfectly, even paused while i got a drink and started playing straight away when i unpaused. I also tried skipping through the disc and it kept track perfectly.
When I first put the disc in the drive it was reconised and started playing at about the same speed as a original is reconised and starts playing.
Tried the disc on my other Phillips DVD633 and it played perfectly on this as well, will test it on some friends players as well this weekend.
I now tried re-reading the disc in, and it reads back with my Samsung as quick as the 1x classics, so top marks there too!
I think this disc is a winner, a 2x disc for 89p that plays well on all the players I've tried it on. (and assuming that it plays on all the players that the 1x classics play on, which it should as it's supposed to be the same die, it will play on just about anything!)
Well done Datasafe / Datawrite! An excellent disc. Good looking silver top and good playback!

HI,
Just Burnt a 4gig movie @ 2X on a Pioneer DVR-104 Firmware 1.20.
Played back the movie in a Denver DVD-122 Player with no problems.
Then tried the film in my PS2 also no play back problems.
First Impressions very good.

Pioneer DVDR104 1.30
Nero 5590
Copied Jak And Daxter for PS2. It's only about 1.3GB, so a bit of a waste of a disc. Unfortunately, it's the only PS2 game I have at the mo.
But burnt at 2X no probs. (At least, I think it was 2X, I went away and had my dinner and forgot to monitor how long it took. Sorry, I'm new to this testing lark. I'll be more attentive, next time... )
Plays fine though. Although, my PS2 seems to prefer playing DVDRs in the vertical position.
I would definitely buy them.

GRIFF
Received the disk Tuesday 8th. The silver finish seems identical to the ePro's, and the writing surface a pale purple dye - reminiscent of the Bulkpaqs, dare I say. Generally the disk has a quality look and feel.
I was going to do a backup of Monsters Inc, but decided instead to do "What's The Worst That Could Happen", since it's ~ 4.3 Gig.
I put the disk in my 104, and was greeted by an ominous whistle; the last time this happened was when I tried to burn a Choice 2X. Anyway, fired up Nero 5.5.8.0, and after about 30 seconds the burning icon appeared and the disk was recognised as a 2X. Set Nero off, and could hear the DVD speeding up and slowing down. After 45 seconds I got a burn error Inspection of the disk showed that the 104 hadn't even attempted a burn, and this was born out when I re-tried at 1X, and was successful.
Since I now had a 1X backup, I decided to do an AB comparison with the same movie backed up on ePro's. In terms of absolute quality the ePro's gave the better backup with more (subtle, but noticeable) detail.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should do a firmware upgrade for the 104. It seems that it's having trouble burning the current generation of budget 2X media. It's hade no problems burning previous generations of 2X, but they wouldn't play in my Pioneer DV717. I don't want to do an upgrade because of the superb results I get from the ePro's and I don't want to jeopardise this

I received my disk yesterday and first impressions were good. Nice dye colour and quite a nice looking top.
I had a PS2 image laying around which was Run Like Hell, which was just under the discs full capacity.
Loaded the Image in Stomp, selected 2x and half hour later I had a pristine copy. It boots flawlessly and with the speed of an original.
Seeing as people have had luck with Xbox as well as DVDR movies and PS2 backups, this disc seems to be the biz. I think it's time to evict the moths from my wallet and purchase some........

UKREVREND
Got my disc yesterday, thanks Stealth & Datasafe / Datawrite, on inspection the disc looked very similar to Epro' disc, that can only be a good sign, as I rate Epro' disc very highly (just purchased a s**t load).
I decided to back up Collateral Damage, re-encoded via CCE, 4.21 GB, re-authored in Spuce Up, now this is where I thought, instead of using the ultra reliable Gear Pro DVD 6, I would use my recently updated version of Nero. 5.5.9.14, as I have tried burning at 2x with Gear and got a 'Error' message.
The disc was recognised by Nero as 2x, so I hit the write button and 27 mins later I had a perfect back-up, it loaded quickly in my Limit 8072 standalone, fast searched, moved through the chapters, everything played smoothly, I haven't had time to watch the whole disc, but on the evidence so far, Datasafe Classic 2x has jumped to the top of my chart.

Burnt a movie at 2x (26 mins)
Everything went without a hitch. I have a brother in law with a Pioneer 444 that stutters on >everything< I have done for him so far.....
So, after checking on my Sony 860 and Pioneer 626 (works great) I went to his gaff to check it out on his........
Works Perfectly!! all the way through!!
I'll definately be getting more of these, are they the holy grail of DVD-r's,
cheap, 2x and super compatible??

SDE
I've burned 9 of these disks at 2x - each one has worked flawlessly, on both my Pana E30 and my DVD-R burner.
Looks like an excellent disk at a great price!

PABLOPICASSO
Got another 20 today and after toca not working at 2x thought i'd try burnout at 1 speed, did it twice and both are perfect.....
good disc at 1x me thinks

Hi Guys....
Got a classic Datasafe / Datawrite disk yesterday.
Oh my setup
writer A104 running on windows 98 machine..
The disk I recived was covered in grime and dust. I washed the disk, but this did not remove all the marks on the disk. Anyway once the disk was dry. I burnt a film called nothing to loose. The burn was complete in under 27 min at 2.1x.
I tried to play the disk but my player would have none of it... it came back with disk error...
I guess for now i will stick with traxdata.
Regards

First impressions:
Nice simple matt silver top design. The writing side looks exactly like the original gen3 silver tops (the final branded gen3 2x disc looked nothing like the gen 3 sivers)
Writing:
I copied a film which was on a Bulkpaq gen3 r2 disc over to this disc, because my player didn't like the bulkpaq towards the end of the film. The film was just over 4GB in size.
I read it with DVD decrypter in ISO mode, and burned is back to the Datasafe / Datawrite Classic at 2x with the same program. The disc took under 30 minutes to record, and i set about testing it in my Pioneer DV-340, and PS2.
Testing:
Popped the disc into my Pioneer DV-340. Flawless playback, fast chapter skip. Beautiful. Put it in my PS2 (which is a little more picky) and found the same. Stunning.
Conclusion
Marvellous.
I feel that DVD-R media has gotten worse of late, and this is a refreshing change. White Label gen4 2x, E-Proformance, Bulkpaq gen3 (& r2) being particular probelmatic on my Pioneer 340. When older discs like gen1 Datasafe / Datawrite gold top, traxdata, white label gen3, Datasafe / Datawrite blue top, FWS gen 1, and even unbranded princo play perfect.
It looks like Datasafe / Datawrite have nailed it with this one, and if they listen to us, they WON'T change it. This is the one we've been waiting for IMO.
I hope this disc wasn't a one off, but i'll be buying some more to be sure.

Anyone, where can i buy these except from SVP?? (They don't deliver to Sweden)

I was sent one of the new matt silver topped Datasafe / Datawrite Classics for the test review . Burnt a smartripped version of Ali G -Aiii that came out at 4.07GB . Used Stomp to record the disk and set record speed to 2X to see if the disk responded as per the recent 2x record speed on a 1x rated disk debate . Started recording and the time came up as 30 mins , left it running and came back a few minutes later to see that the time had gone up to 36 mins left to record . When the disk had finished burning it had taken about 40 mins so it definetly isn't a 2x disk on my system . Verified the disk which also took 40 mins but came up as O.K .( I've never had a disk take 40 mins to verify before ) Tried the disk in my Neo4 PS2 and it froze on the copyright screen . Tried the disk in my Messiah PS2 and that wouldn't read it at all . Lastly tested in my Acoustic 551 standalone , put the ffwd button to 8x as I hadn't got time to watch it and it seemed to sail through O.K , it didn't skip or pixelate while in this mode so I guess it was O.K in this player . Why do Datasafe / Datawrite bother , I'd just been testing some of the white topped Classics which were good in my Messiah and 551 (skipped in the Neo4 PS2 though) , and were the first sub 1 disks that actually worked well in the Messiah PS2 and they've bloody well changed them within weeks of bringing out the Classic that everyone wanted back . The white top Classics are made by prodisc ( which my PS2's usually get on quite well with ) and the Matt Silver are made by TDK . Until Datasafe / Datawrite can get thier act together I shall simply not use their disks anymore . Thanx for the test disk .

That's because your drive is set to PIO mode - change it to DMA and it will work. It's trying to write at 2x but because its in PIO your PC can't send the data fast enough.

sidneysides
The majority of people seem to have tested movies and reported that they are excellent. Has anyone tried data? When a movie is played in a DVD player, if there is a tiny bit of unreadable data, the player will just skip past it and you probably won't notice. However, with data, if a tiny bit of the file is unreadable then your knackered and u can't access the file.
Those people who have copied large movies, have u tried to rip it back to your hard drive? If it all copies back, then excellent. Me personally I'm finding that the movie wil play OK, but when I read the data back (essential if you're making your master copy) I'm getting errors.

Testing on PS2 with Neo 2.2 Chip
I burnt a 3.8G movie with StompRecord Max at 2x that took 27.30Min to complete. But i couldnt play it on my PS2.
Its not the discs probleme, because i had burnt 4 Traxdata DVD-Rs with Stomp and they wouldnt work either, its the programe that is the probleme.
Usualy i burn my discs with Instant Vob.

Moebius
pioneer 104 , pal ps2 messiah.
nice dvdr, burnt grandia xtreme which boots fine on mine and a mates ps2
both with messiah.
burnt @ 2, but there are some occasional jutters while reading, these arent present on a whitelabel @ 1x

taxan
like the look of these disks, used a lot of new bulkpaq which i rate highly until now, ive got a pioneer a03 and burnt a ps2 game to the test dvdr at 1 speed with nero 5599 no problems loads quick and no skip when i get some more will try at 2x rating 9.5/10

rorism
like the look of the silver top disks, similar to eproformance, rather unoffensive which is more than can be said for some other brands.
I recorded 4.1g of phoenix nights ripped from the dvd (re-encoded in tmpgenc) and authored in DVD maestro/Win2k. Disk recorded at 2x as reported elsewhere, which was nice and there are no noticable blemishes on the disk. Fired up the disk in my Onkyo DRS-2.0, which plays almost anything and all sounded okay. Looked at the screen though and the picture looked like it was fuzzy and out of alignment. I tried it in the Sony player in the other room and everything was brilliant, even right to the end (and this player can be picky). Looks like I made a bodge somewhere with the re-encoding / mastering. Tried again to a Princo DVD-RW and the same results
Luckily I'd just ordered some of these so I gave one of them a try with 4.3gig of DVD movie. Played perfectly in PS2, Onkyo and Sony (not too sure of model no.), which was nice. I had experienced some problems on the Sony towards the end of the disk with choice 2x.
In short probably my favourite DVD-R at the moment. I haven't tried too many brands, but I have no problems with these so no point in changing (unless they mess up the dye again). Just wait for something cheaper now!

I always use Nero (and IFOEDIT 0.91), currently have stopped at stable 5.5.8.3 Have burnt 50-60 discs so far using my now ancient Pioneer 103 which has multi-region firmware installed. Have used Bulkpaq (this is the worst brand for coasters), many different silver tops and of course Pioneer. The Datasafe / Datawrite (which mine was white not silver) managed 25 minutes to produce a 4Gb mixed DVD / DVD-ROM (Chicken Run) and took another 10-15 minutes to verify (not always a fool proof test I know!). Plays ok on my LG DVD Rom drive using PowerDVD am going home to try it on my PS2, Acoustic Solutions DVD521 and my uncrackable Grundig GDV330 (does anyone know how to make this multi-region?).
Played perfectly (watch all way thru) on Grundig, DVD521 and PS2 (not hacked) skipped thru all sections and watched a few seconds everything appeared aok.

cdtplug
got mine the other day in a nice protective jewel case. little bit of dirt on disk which cleaned stright off. burnt in a pioneer 104 firware 1.32. took about 25 mins to burn a 4 gig movie(windtalkers). playback was flawless on a Philips 622
PS2 version 3
APEX AD 100WB
i have just ordered 50 of these and hope they don't start messing about with the dye formula, as it seems to be a winner. Whitelabel gen 3 were my favourites but these don't seem to manufactured anymore. Very impressed by this disk.

UKbackupz
DVD come to me in perfect condition in double jewel case nice idea to keep clean.
Burned the "test" dvd which is blade 2 and is 4402mb in length, a lot of cheaper dvdr dont like this one and stutter near end.
Burned using duplicater and pioneer a04 with firmware 1.31 (for traxdata 2x also ) and burned with no problems at all at 2x.
Watched back on PC, and 3 various players without one glitch when skipping chapters, watching at 8x on all players and no jittering near end.
PASSED
nice dvdr but still not changing from traxdata till something is better, i would say this was on par with traxdata but i dont know the player compatibilities as of yet so am not changing yet.

Passion4plex

Got my disc the other day, burnt a copy of the Monsters Inc DVD movie on the fly.
Disc wrote at 2 speed in A04, results were perfect playback all the way through on the following:-
Sony 725, Pan E20, Technika (Dansai 852 Equiv), PS2 Version 5 and all 3 of my PC DVD-ROM's.
Nice looking disc as well.
10/10

i have tried this new sample with game on ps2 and loads very quickly, i'm impressed and seeing as i foolishly upgraded my firmware to 1.32 I can only burn the cheap dvdrs at 18 and these disks are a great price!

Charly
I am sure we will all agree Its been hard and expensive to find good DVDRs "that do as it says on the tin" this one does just that! exactly as it says in the realease it writes flawlessly at 1x 2x and its that good
Now lets hope Datasafe / Datawrite keep this DVDR in stock and not do a couple of hundred thousand run and then change again.
I think for the price its hard to beat and the only downside is I would like to be able to buy a printable version without all the print on silverside (But I guess we wouldnt know it was genuine then)
sample (and my own) burnt on Pioneer A03 at both 1x 2x plays perfectly in Pioneer A106 Pioneer 444 PS2 LG DVD5253.
RECOMENDED 5*****

Very Strange! I should receive the disk from stealth soon... But today I received some from a mail order retailer and.... when I write them at 2X : the DVD is jumpy on the PS2! I'll try at 1X but I think Datasafe / Datawrite did it again : different dye under the same label! (the silver one).
I think I will wait a few days/week and see what happen. Anyway I sold my A03 and I am waiting for my sony DRU-500A

Quote:
I just fail to understand why manufacturers cannot give the same results from the same DVDRs time after time as one bad batch will waste/undo all the good work and reveiws done through this forum for Datasafe / Datawrite.

The manufacturers are constantly striving to make make their media as compatible as possible. One bad batch to you may be a good batch for ten other people, it's a numbers game. That's where we come in, we are effectively the beta testers. With our contributions in mind they can gauge the likely % success of their latest offerings. Also, there is fierce competition between the manufacturers as to who has the best/most compatible media for the price; therefore, no-one is willing to stand still
