Datawrite Printable 8x Speed CMCMAG AE1

I have just received another batch of discs from Datawrite and from the appearances they appeared to be just another printable surface DVD-R. The printable surface is a standard size covering 42-118mm.the centre ring being completely transparent except for a narrow ring of silver next to the print area. The dye is a light mauve with a small inner silver ring. I checked the disc in my Pioneer 108 to find I was able to burn it at 12x speed and the dye stamper was CMCMAG AE1

I carried out a test burns in my various DVD burners and tested the resultant burns for quality and readability

PIONEER DVR-108 V1.14

Burn speed test in the Pioneer DVR-108 drive

Here you can see that the disc burnt at 12x speed from the 2gig point to the end without any problems and the burn took a total time of 6m52secs

A burn quality test in my NU drive

The PIE errors peak at just over 40 with an all time average of 23. Jitter is constant around the average of 11.8% and PIF errors are almost all zero. This is a good chart with no sharp increases and a generally low reading

I burnt several films with this media and tested the playback compatibility they all played smoothly in all my DVD players I tested this media in my several of my other drives NEC ND-3500AG Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 and BENQ DW1620

Here are the resultant graphs

NEC ND-3500AG

NEC ND-3500AG burning speed

The NEC only burnt this media at 8x speed in three stages resulting in a burning time of 9m38secs

Burn quality as tested in the NU drive

The PIE is very low at a peak of 20 and very low at the outer edge. Interesting you can clearly see the increase in errors when the drive speeds up to 6x speed and then drops as the drive speeds up again to 8x speed the write strategy is marginally out at 6x speed but comes back into line at 8x speed. This is also reflected in the increase of jitter % errors during the 6x period. The jitter average is good at only 11.1%. Generally a good graph from the NEC burn

MEMOREX DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 vBWSE

MEMOREX DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 burning graph

The Memorex burnt this disc at 8x speed taking 9m31secs

Burn quality as tested in the NU drive

The PIE & PIF charts here shows some irregularities at the start of the scan and the PIE shows a sharp increase at just over 1.5gig which is the switch to 8x speed point, these errors increase gradually and show an unacceptable sharp increase at the finish rising to a peak of over 400.
The PIF also shows a similar but lower peak at this point. Jitter % is slightly erratic at the start of the scan and showing a gradual increase as the scan progresses with a very large peak at the end which is unacceptable.
In view of this poor result I created another disc and checked it to find the results similar.

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

The graph here is smooth up to 3 gigs after which it shows signs faltering but there are no sharp drops in read speed and no errors

BENQ

Benq DW1620 burning

The Benq burnt this media at super fast 12x speed taking 6m18secs to burn this disc. The quickest burn with this media

Burn quality as tested in the NU drive

The pie graph is fairly steady and low up until the outer edge when the burning speed was at its fastest. The increase is gradual and not excessive so it should not be a problem and if the drive was set to burn at 8x speed this chart would be very good. The jitter % is marginally high but no course for concern

With the exception of the Memorex burns these burns are good and would recommend this media for use in the other drives I used. The Memorex is manufactured by Liteon as is my Teac drive and they all produced similar results at 8x speed with this media, and I feel that a firmware upgrade is needed before I can recommend using this media with these drives

The movies produced in the rest of my drives played back faultlessly over my full range of DVD players, The Printable surface covered 42-118mm and the surface is a nice matt white finish producing some very good colour prints

This Disc is a good partner to the Datawrite Classic Grey 8x speed FUJIFILM03 which I reviewed in May and has had some good reviews since so if you are looking for a good reliable 8X speed printable DVD-R then you will not go far wrong with these.
